Ensure your business is protected against winter weather

28 Dec 2022

Business owners are advised to be prepared for adverse weather conditions during the festive season and beyond.

Try and leave extra time for journeys as road accidents almost double during bad weather. Business owners should keep their driveways, car parks and walkways clear in order to avoid public liability claims. In addition, businesses should make sure they mop and dry their floors if slush or water is brought indoors from outside.

Carry out winter maintenance work on your business's heating system as early as possible, and ensure the heating is left on low to avoid burst water pipes if the property is left vacant over the holiday period.

Businesses are also advised to ensure that they have an adequate supply of grit; guttering is cleared of debris; and that they stay up to date with the weather forecast.

Finally, to help combat the coronavirus (COVID-19), business owners should permit employees to work from home where possible.
